J-Drama : Jiu: Keishichou Tokushuhan Sousakei ジウ 警視庁特殊犯捜査係 (2011)

So, I was watching the K-drama Hwang Jin Yi (again) when my cousin told me about this new J-drama she downloaded. I asked her what's the title, I thought she was rambling nonsense..seriously. That was until I 'googled' about the drama, I finally can comprehend what she was saying. (Seriously, her nihongo pronunciation needs to improve, her accent makes her sound ridiculous...haha)
This reminds me of the One Final Call movie.
So the title of the drama is Jiu: Keishichou Tokushuhan Sousakei. (No wonder my cousin screwed her pronounciation, look at the title...it's like a tongue twister for her). The show is based on a suspense novel series “Jiu” written by Honda Tetsuya. The main characters of this drama are Motoko, who is played by Meisa Kuroki (I'm her fan!) and the other is Misaki played by Mikako Tabe. Motoko is the fierce, physically capable investigator with a strong battle instinct, while Misaki is more of the intellectual, kind-hearted, and naive type.

After watching three episodes (I’m watching episode 4 after finishing this post) I have conclude that having a blonde haired guy in a suspense drama is not going to be that suspense at all. I mean,  really??!!! A BLONDE guy? Come one, it’s like holding a big banner above the guy’s head that is obviously saying “Look at me!! I’m the mastermind of all this killings. And I have blonde hair! Mwahaha!!” And it seems this blonde so called crime-mastermind isn’t a mastermind either. Why the heck do you want to be among the crowd at the crime scene when you are the suspect? Why make yourself a target? But luckily, in the drama the police have no hard evidence to support that theory….yet. Hmm...maybe evil-blond-guy wants to play Death Note with the police.
Kuroki’s portrayal of a tough bad-ass woman is quite cool as first but as the show progress I came to a conclusion that she is just trying too hard, it is just not working. Especially the muscles size on her body, trust me, she is no match for Michelle Rodriguez. I find that fact a massive let-down as I’m not so convinced of her acting like a no monkey business bad-ass character. And her hairstyle, ohmigosh, it looks like her hairstyle hasn’t even change since the first time I saw her in Tada Kimi no Aishiteru. But man, she looks damn fit in the drama, but doesn’t look so tough. Oh well, at least she can do sit ups and push ups, but still...
Mikako Tabe, haven’t heard about her before I watched Jiu. When she first appeared in the drama, the first thought that came to my mind was, “What an ugly character!” I hate the hairstyle. But then I ‘googled’ her, and she turns out to be quite a cutie in real life, why oh WHY the show made her look like Misery (remember Kathy Bates) in a lame way. But on the other hand, her acting in 'Jiu' looks somewhat more natural and better than Kuroki.
All in all, the series is quite enjoying to be watched. Once you can get pass those not so convincing tough character and the typical naïve character we’ve always seen in j-drama formula and also anime.

Here are some random pictures of Mikako Tabe, she is such a cutie! Apparently she also acted in the live-action series of the manga Kimi ni Todoke.
Here are random pictures of Meisa Kuroki, for some reason I can’t help staring into those eyes.
The eyes....exotic. The smile...beautiful.
Here’s some freebies of both actress.
(If only I can get myself those novels by Honda Tetsuya.)
